While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”Matthew 26:26-28

Your child’s faith journey began the day you brought your child to the Church to be baptised. Now that your child is older, they are about to take another step in their faith journey, as they prepare for First Penance and First Holy Communion. The Sacrament of Communion is an initiation in the parish faith community, a community that believes in Jesus. It celebrates the wondrous occasion when your child first accepts the Eucharist, the body and blood of Christ. Together with the sacraments of Baptism, First Confession and Confirmation, this sacrament is an important step on the journey of faith development.
