The Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism of a child is a very special occasion in the life of a family.  It is also a very special occasion in the life of the Church.  Just as we welcome a child into our families, so too the Church welcomes children into the family of God.  Baptism is the Church’s sacrament of welcome and the gateway to all the other sacraments.  Baptism is the sacrament which initiates a person into the Christian Community, making them children of God and members of the local parish.  In it we celebrate God’s love for us and are affirmed as followers of Christ.

The central role in passing on faith belongs to parents/guardians. It is they who will be the role models of faith for their children.  It is in the home that children need to learn and experience trust, love, faith, hope and commitment in order for their faith to grow.

If you would like to arrange a Baptism for your child, please fill out the Application Form and return it to the Parish office.

The Application Form is available from the Parish Office or alternatively can be downloaded from the 'Forms' Section at the top of our website.

*Please note you should bring the child's original birth certificate with you. It is necessary for us to photocopy it for parish records, but it will be returned to you straight away.
*The Baptism date is not confirmed until we recieve the signed form.

Baptisms take place in St. Anne's Parish on the first and third Saturday of each month at 12:30pm.

Baptism Preparation meetings will take place on the last Thursday of every month at 7pm. Parents are required to attend the meeting the month prior to their child's Baptism. Godparents are not required to attend this meeting, but are more than welcome to do so if they wish.

Please contact the Parish Office on 01-2822704 for further information.
